Uptown Streetscape Improvement Project

The City has initiated a Streetscape Master Plan project for Uptown Mount Vernon, IA. This plan will serve as a vision for the future design of Uptown for 1st Street from 3rd Avenue SW to B Avenue SE, as well as the adjoining North Alley area.  Stay tuned for more information.

Congratulations to Libby Dix, now a two time Mt. Vernon girls wrestling program State Champion.

Coming up soon is a ribbon cutting for Jen Juhl and White Tree Bakery at their new uptown location.

Much progress is being made on the Cottonwood Apartments and they should be open for occupancy in early summer, bringing 30 more households to Mt. Vernon. Pouring the Rachel Street extension west across Highway 1 will start in spring as the site is prepared for Kwik Star coming. There will be a new south entrance for Plaza Auto off Rachel. Additional residential streets will be poured in the Stonebrook and Spring Meadow Heights areas as well.

Childcare Solutions groups is still working on establishing more quality childcare options locally. The process is now looking at putting an addition onto the LBC designed to be a daycare service able to hold up to 100 children. This conversation will continue with the Mt. Vernon School District.

May 2nd-5th: Chalk the Walk Weekend
