Smart Streetlights

July 1, 2025

Smart streetlights have been installed uptown which will begin operating 24/7 over the holiday weekend, pending necessary adjustments. The LED banners will remain off during this same time period. System adjustments will continue into next week, at which point the lights will return to a regular operating schedule. We appreciate your patience and understanding while City staff and contractors work to optimize the system.

Water Quality Report 2023

Every year we do a Water Quality Report for the City of Mt Vernon, Iowa. Here are the results for 2023. Water is tested constantly all year. Did you know our water department tests weekly for Chlorine, twice a week for Manganese and Phosphates, and monthly for Bacteria just to name a few? The DNR sets the testing schedules and they are followed to make sure the water in Mount Vernon is safe for everyday use! Stay hydrated Mt Vernon!
