The City of Mount Vernon is protected by a volunteer Fire Department made up of members who work and live in the community. It provides coverage to approximately 72 square miles of South East Linn County. Linn County Fire District #1 makes up the rural portion of the fire department’s coverage that spans three townships.
The Mount Vernon Fire Department is an active and progressive fire department providing emergency response for fire, EMs, motor vehicle accidents, high- and low-angle rope rescue, confined space rescue, ice rescue, agricultural rescue and water emergencies.
