Uptown Lighting Improvements are underway!

Exciting news! Mount Vernon was chosen for a pilot program through Alliant Energy to install new smart streetlights throughout the uptown corridor on 1^st Street (from A Avenue to 4^th Avenue) as part of an ongoing effort to improve public safety, energy efficiency, and overall neighborhood visibility. These modern LED fixtures provide brighter, more reliable lighting while reducing energy consumption and maintenance costs. The upgrade will enhance nighttime visibility for both drivers and pedestrians, contributing to a safer and more welcoming environment uptown. Residents can expect minimal disruption during installation, and once complete, the new lighting will offer long-term benefits for the entire community.

Construction began today (4/15/2025) and is expected to be completed by July 2025. Please use caution and have patience as construction crews complete this effort over the next few months.
