Smart Streetlights

Smart streetlights have been installed uptown which will begin operating 24/7 over the holiday weekend, pending necessary adjustments. The LED banners will remain off during this same time period. System adjustments will continue into next week, at which point the lights will return to a regular operating schedule. We appreciate your patience and understanding while City staff and contractors work to optimize the system.

The new LED streetlights and electronic streetlight banner installation is nearly complete.   These updates were funded in part by a pilot program through Alliant Energy.  Participation in this program is also part of Mount Vernon’s ongoing commitment to energy efficiency.

As with any technology, it may take time to adjust the necessary functions of the system. We are actively monitoring the lighting levels and banner brightness to ensure they are appropriately adjusted. Your patience is appreciated as we fine-tune these systems to best serve the community.

The banners are intended to support official City communications, including public service announcements, emergency alerts, community events, and other city-related information and are not available for personal messages, private event announcements, or commercial advertising. This policy ensures that the messaging remains clear, consistent, and focused on serving the public interest.
